Video: New eReader device from Plastic Logic

At a meeting of the eNews 2008 group at IFRA headquarters in Darmstadt in October, David Edgar, Director of European Telecom Partnerships at Plastic Logic (UK) Ltd., presented a new eReader device developed by his company. It is made completely of plastic, from the screen to the electronics inside, unlike competing devices, which have liquid crystal displays.

Scratch-resistant and splash-proof, this device, which still has no official name, is already being produced in a factory in Dresden, Germany, and will hit the US market in mid-2009. The company intends to launch it in Europe and Asia as well before the end of next year.

“The screen of our device is three times the size of the one in the Kindle from Amazon, but it weights about the same, 350 grammes. Its user interface is entirely touch-based and it offers Bluetooth, WiFi and 3G connectivity,” Edgar said. -- Mari Pascual
